Hearts2

Happy Valentines' Day!

This one has been sitting on the shelf for a while... I actually started cutting the blocks last quilt retreat (Feb 2013!) so I guess it's taken me a year to make. I chose from all the random pinks, browns and reds from my stash, some from other projects, some given to me.

I used the directions for the block from Cluck Cluck Sew and added 3" borders, so the quilt is about 50" x 45". The quilting was fun. I echo-quilted 1/4" inside each row and column, and then marked all the hearts at random with a template and quilted, all with my regular foot. The borders I did a doodle-y free motion loop heart (doodle-y is good because it doesn't have to be perfect!)

Hearts Squared - loved doing the label! I'd been wanting to try some English paper piecing for a very long time. I handstitched the hexagons together and then machine stitched all around the outside of the hexie flower and between each hexagon to secure it to the backing before I basted the quilt.

And yes, Happy V-Day with lots of fresh snow. Well, it is Alberta - suppose it's my own fault for living here. At least it looks pretty again instead of muddy!

  1. So happy you have it finished! I think my favorite part is the hexy label :)
