I always make a homemade birthday cake for whoever is the lucky person. My Mom always did that for us and it made birthdays so special. She is an awesome cake maker and I hope to attain to her greatness someday. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have a summer birthday too and when I was lots younger I would have all day slumber parties with my friends. Best birthdays ever :)
ReplyDeletesummer birhtdays when I was little usually meant apple eating. An apple was put in a bowl ful of water, you were blindfolded and the hands tied to the back and you had to try to get the apple out of the bowl without getting too wet.
ReplyDeleteOne of our birthday traditions is filling up the kiddos bed with balloons while they are sleeping so they wake up to a bed full of balloons. They love it. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteA birthday isn't a birthday without cake. My daughters have become very good cake decorators too.
ReplyDeleteI love the summer birthday parties at the pool :)
ReplyDeleteMy own personal tradition growing up was to have a tea party with angel food cake. Now that I'm grown up, I usually forgo the tea parties - but in our extended family, we always have "birthday dinner" and the honored person gets to choose the meal and dessert!
ReplyDeleteOne of our traditions is getting to pick their birthday dinner. We don't typically go out, due to food allergies, but every once in a while we make an exception.
ReplyDeleteWhen my children were young every birthday in the family would begin with them performing "Happy Birthday either in person for us, or on the phone for extended family.
ReplyDeleteWe always have a homemade pie at birthday celebrations!
ReplyDeleteI have a birthday this week...I don't have any traditions, unfortunately, but cake is always good. =)
ReplyDeleteI'm not ashamed to admit that my favorite part of birthdays is the presents!! Who doesn't love opening presents or watching someone open a present you gave them. So exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteI love making cakes so coming up with a new cake is my fav.

When the daughters were small, they had to have a 'mermaids on a rock' birthday cake, made by Mum! That went on until they were in their teens! Now, both away from home so it has lapsed...
ReplyDeleteGoing camping for my husband and daughter's summer birthday has been my favorite tradition. My birthday is in the winter and we dont have anything we do every year for it. It is always different. Thanks for the chance to win!

The only Birthday tradition that I could think of is EATING CAKE, yummy!
ReplyDeleteWe always let our kids choose where to go to dinner and if they wanted to bring their siblings. It was fun over the years to see if they let them come or not. We always came home for cake and the party though. Thanks for participating in the Giveaway Day.
ReplyDeleteThe one I miss the most was celebrating all week long. It started when my dad actually forgot my mom's birthday one year, and he made up for it by bringing home small gifts all week. My sweetie took that story to heart, and did the same for me until he passed. Don't miss the dime-store presents, but I do miss feeling that special.
ReplyDeleteMy boys were born very close together so when they were very young my mom started unbirthday gifts. You always got a small gift on your brothers birthday. Yeah she spoiled her grands.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday was the one day a year I got to pick any restaurant in the city to go to.

Ooh, I'll need those once the kidlet starts school! Checkerboard cake. I love the design!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a great baker - she makes the birthday person a cake of their choice!
ReplyDeleteIn the morning we go into the birthday persons room with breakfast, a hot drink and the birthday cards and then they get opened before we go downstairs and open presents. It's nice to be waiting in bed for everyone to pile on in!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any traditions now, but I always used to have slumber party birthdays when I was a kid. Those were a blast!
ReplyDeleteI have my birthday on St David's day (patron saint of Wales) so when I was younger I had to dress in traditional dress on my birthday (I hated it - the skirt was always scratchy!) now I get to dress my daughters up on my birthday!
ReplyDeleteWe always have cake for the birthday person. When my kids were little (and not so little) they would scour my cake decorating books for weeks leading up to their birthday trying to choose what they wanted that year. It was such an excitement for them. They never minded my amateur cake decorating attempts and so I made every thing from Barbie to turtles, to trains to guitar to space monster...
ReplyDeleteTo me, summer birthdays will always mean test cricket and pot luck picnics. Failing that (and I do realise that test cricket is a very specific tradition) it would have to be chocolate cake and candles.
ReplyDeleteMy mom has made me my favorite ice cream cake for as long as I can remember, even now as an adult she still makes it for me!
ReplyDeleteOur favorite birthday tradition is singing to my girls as soon as they wake up on their bday. Now that they`re older, they don`t quite appreciate my off-key singing as much, but it`s tradition!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday tradition is a homemade cake and dinner of choice for the birthday girl or guy.

ReplyDeleteLast year my husband took me out for surprise ice cream the night before my birthday and even brought a candle to light in it. I'm hoping this turns into a tradition because ice cream is the BEST. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI like to turn the tables on my family and give them all gifts on my birthday. It's fun to see how excited they get when they realize what's happening.
ReplyDeleteOhh, great snack bags! I've made a couple myself but can always use more!
ReplyDeleteI'm in my thirties now and I don't have kids, so my only birthday tradition appears to be drinking gin ;) but when I was small my sister and I got to choose what the other would wear on our birthday, as a treat. My sister's birthday is in July and she would always try to get me to wear all my winter woollies…

ReplyDeleteCake and ice cream for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - were these easy to make? Birthday tradition - lemon drizzle cake with vanilla icecream for breakfast the day after your birthday. It is so naughty but oh. so. goo.

ReplyDeleteBirthdays are celebrated with a sign my dad has been hanging since we were kids. its ripped and fadded but he sends us a picture of it hanging even when we are far from home.
ReplyDeleteBirthday cakes used to be my favorite tradition, but as I've gotten older and left my folks, I live for birthday calls with my family singing happy birthday. Let me tell you....they are HORRIBLE singers. No one is ever on key and everyone sings with different words and in their own time, but it is wonderful to get those calls. They always make me smile and if they are late, I get worried and start to feel a bit sad, but they always come through for me.
ReplyDeletebirthday day is for the person to decide..whatever they want to do :)
ReplyDeleteAs a kid my mom would make me chocolate waffles for my birthday... come to think of it, that might be a tradition I want to revive!

ReplyDeleteBirthdays are big family gatherings with lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always let us pick the menu for the meal and we do the same in my family. My son has had pizza every year since he stopped eating Gerbers!
ReplyDeletepreparing a cake with my sons, they blowing the candles altogether and asking for a wish :)
ReplyDeleteOne of us takes the kids out while the other decorates..balloons, garland etc. Somehow they never figure it out...lol!

ReplyDeletefor my birthday it is a dinner out, for my daughters I love making out of the world cakes and surprizing them at work.. Last year it was a dragon cake for one and a teapot for the other, both got baskets of everything chocolate..
ReplyDeleteThe birthday boy or girl chooses their favorite meal and dessert. Sometimes its a cake, sometimes its a pie, sometimes it's cookies. Then I sing a happy birthday song I learned in chorus as a teenager. It is a different than the one we all know and switches it up. My daughter comes looking for me if we are getting to the end of her day and I haven't sung it to her. monique.belmer at gmail.com

ReplyDeleteNot sure what my kids favorite traditions were but they've carried on the birthday one picks his favorite breakfast and dinner meal. I also followed my Mom's rule: birthday parties on even years, family dinner (out if wanted) odd years and your age pretty much determined the number of guests. Made life so much simpler to have a few rules. We didn't do elaborate or expensive just played games and had fun. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSince my birthday is a few days before Christmas I always put up the Christmas tree and decorate it! Thanks for the chance to win :)
